As the Goodyear blimp buzzed overhead, guests gathered on the field at the Rose Bowl as CBS celebrated its portion of the summer TV Critics Assn. press tour Saturday night.Stars, producers, execs and journos gathered under the lights of the stadium while the UCLA marching band serenaded them with renditions of popular hit songs. Grooving to the beat were CBS leader Leslie Moonves and his wife, “Early Show” co-host and “Big Brother” host Julie Chen; “Shark” star James Woods; “The Unit’s” Dennis Haysbert; and “Two and a Half Men’s” Charlie Sheen.
Also watching — or perhaps even taking part in — punt, pass and kick games on the Rose Bowl gridiron were “The Amazing Race” host Phil Keoghan; “How I Met Your Mother” star Jason Segal and exec producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.
Meanwhile, at the 30th-anniversary party for Showtime on Friday, network chairman-CEO Matt Blank toasted his own 30th year in pay cable. “I started at HBO in 1976, before moving over to Showtime 18 years ago,” Blank said. Coming off one of the cabler’s less hostile Q&As with the press during the biannual TCA tours, Blank said he’s stuck around for both the ups and the downs. “The thing about TV is tonight’s product didn’t exist yesterday. It’s always fresh in this business, and that really keeps me going.”
Showtime entertainment president Robert Greenblatt and thesps Elizabeth Perkins, Michael C. Hall, Michael Ealy and Oded Fehr were among the partygoers.
